2.5 mile loop, ~2 hours
For the 2nd December in a row, let’s finish the year with the Tanbark Trail! The Tanbark Trail is a beautiful 2.5 mile forest loop with great views of the Catskills, all starting just behind Phoenicia’s Main Street. The trail climbs up over Phoenicia, then opens up to a sweeping overlook of the Catskills, then levels out to a lovely forest walk before descending back to Main Street. Dog friendly.
Difficulty: The first 1/2 mile of the trail has a steady incline up some switchbacks, some of which is over moderately rocky terrain. The trail then levels out for the loop, and then descends slightly more gradually, with less rocks. Please let us know if you have any questions about what the trail is like!
Directions: Use the address for the Phoenicia Post Office [8 Ava Maria Dr, Phoenicia, NY 12464] for your GPS. To the left of the post office, you’ll see a wooden fence that you can park alongside. We’ll be there with our flags.
Weather: I don’t believe there’s any snow up there yet, but we’ll let you know if we hear of any closer to Dec 1st. If there is, this trail can be done in regular waterproof snow boots – if you have hiking boots wear them, but they’re not required.
Please RSVP, and email with any questions!
