The Link Project connects older people living with HIV/AIDS with emerging young leaders in the Hudson Valley. This will be achieved by coordinating community events and facilitating intergenerational conversations centered on HIV/AIDS and LGBTQ identity.
The Link Project will host community events (i.e. mixers, brunches, dinners, parties, movie screenings), based in the Hudson Valley, that are free and open to all. During this time, groups of diverse ages will build mutually beneficial relationships amongst each other.
Through these community events, older participants will be able to engage in intergenerational dialogue, provide mentorship, and prepare a new generation of advocates. The younger participants will be able to provide social support, friendship, and reduce HIV-related stigma in their local community.
Through this initiative, we hope to support people living with HIV/AIDS by providing emotional and social support, companionship, community building, and ultimately reduce HIV-related stigma in the Hudson Valley. Participation in The Link Project will empower individuals, improve mental health, and will lead to larger things, like getting involved in their local community, engaging with HIV and LGBTQ service organizations, and maintaining overall health and wellness.
This project is managed by Charlie Ferrusi, with support from the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, and funding from the Elton John AIDS Foundation.
