July 28, 2020

7:00 pm / 8:00 pm

Join us on July 28th at 7pm EST in collaboration with the Woodstock Film Festival for another installment of their Virtual Films & Conversations series with Academy-Award nominated filmmaker David France. France will speak about his new film WELCOME TO CHECHNYA, now streaming on HBO. The conversation will be moderated by Simon Kilmurry, Executive Director of the International Documentary Association.

ABOUT THE FILM: Since 2017, Chechnya’s tyrannical leader, Ramzan Kadyrov, has waged a depraved operation to “cleanse the blood” of LGBTQ Chechens, overseeing a government-directed campaign to detain, torture and execute them. With no help from the Kremlin and only faint global condemnation, activists take matters into their own hands. In his new documentary, David France uses a remarkable approach to anonymity to expose this atrocity and to tell the story of an extraordinary group of people confronting evil. ABOUT THE DIRECTOR: David France is an Oscar-nominated filmmaker, New York Times best-selling author, and award-winning investigative journalist. His critically-acclaimed new documentary, WELCOME TO CHECHNYA, premiered at Sundance 2020 and is now streaming on HBO.
