This scholarship was created to provide financial support for a high school graduate who displays leadership toward LGBTQ+ equality. The Center seeks to mitigate the prohibitive costs associated with higher education and to make a brighter future possible for young LGBTQ+ people. We are seeking candidates who have taken active roles in their communities, and we are open to all types of agents of change, for example: candidates may have started a GSA or anti-bullying campaign, mentored younger students, pushed boundaries as an out athlete, written cutting edge articles in their school paper, engaged in student government, combated bullying by being an active bystander, raised money for an LGBTQ+ cause, or worked with local government to expand non-discrimination policies. We are also excited to hear from candidates who have been leaders in other ways.
Scholarships will be awarded to students who identify as LGBTQ+ or as allies. The Center youth scholarship is named after the Center’s former Executive Director, J. Tracy Hermann, a highly esteemed civic leader who brought many communities together through his steadfast commitment to equality and justice for all.
